In Memory

Mike Ross - Class Of 1970

Mike Ross

The Ross Family lost their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Michael Ray Ross, 70 of Deland passed away February 14, 2023. Mike was the youngest of five boys all born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 26, 1952 to Albert and Elizabeth “Libby” Ross.

The family moved to Winter Park, Florida before eventually moving to South Florida and finally settling on Singer Island. Mike’s backyard was on A1A directly across the street from the ocean, which Mike grew to love as he became an avid surfer. He chased waves along the East Coast from Florida to New York. He also went on a surfing team trip to Southern California.

He graduated from Riviera Beach High and while in high school worked for Holmesy Surfboards. Mike was also a competitive swimmer in school. He cherished many great memories of his time living on Singer Island, especially surfing the good waves thanks to the beaching of the Amaryllis cargo ship in his own backyard.

Mike worked for many years alongside his brothers and father in the family’s publishing company in West Palm Beach. Later, he moved to DeLand, Florida and traded his surfboard for a boogie board, which he loved, and would brag about catching more waves than the surfers. While in DeLand he worked for a family business and spent time traveling around the country buying antiques and collectibles.

Mike is survived by his wife, Paula, sons Ryan and Nicholas, daughter Kelly Jacobs, son-in-law Andy, grandchildren Parker and Lauren, brother Tony and sister-in-law Shirley, brother-in-law Billy Hillis and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his three brothers, Ed, Nick and Alan.

There will be a Family Hosted Celebration of Life on Sunday February 19, 2023 between 3:00 and 7:00. The address is 336 Lake Talmadge Road, Deland, Florida 32724
