Yes, we've since spoken. Hartley passed away on February 29, 2024 in hospice at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, after a recurrence of cancer. I was by his side when he passed. Brian Van Duzee and Rita Mascaro got to visit him as well. His probate situation remains complex, but several of our friends from '66 are planning for some type of Celebration of Life at some point, and it will be well publicized on this site and other grapevines.
Yes, indeed, Ric. Did you get a chance to speak with him at last year's Hornet Buzz? I have some pictures of him there, which I wil get aournd to posting soon.
I didn't know Hartley well but when we saw each other at the reunions Hartley always sat with me and talked about our lives. He was so interesting and he had a softness when he spoke. Not sure how to explain it, but he was always someone I wanted to make sure to see at the reunions. God bless him.
I'm very saddened by Hartley's passing. Hartley and I were in Mr. Goffi's first hour English class. Hartley and I talked Goffi into trading his Rolls Royce in for a Lincoln. I'm glad I got to spend some time with Hartley at the last Buzz. Rest in peace my friend.
I always thought that Hartley would be the last man standing. After all, he had uncles that lived into their 100s and he had never missed a single day of school to illness from kindergarten through high school graduation! Seems strange now that I cannot ring Hartley up anytime day or night to get a laugh. And it looks like he will be missing a dream year in sports with his beloved Dodgers and Hurricanes having auspicious seasons. Too much to say about this unique and wonderful guy in a few words so I composed a bit of a longer tribute here:

Hartley's wry sense of humor never failed to make me smile. I'll miss him, and I'm glad he was part of my life.
