Obituary

Dennis Griffin passed away recently following a short illness. Dennis was raised in Northern Palm Beach County, Florida. He graduated from St. Francis School in Riviera Beach and Riviera Beach High School, Class of 1966.

Singer Island was the playground for Dennis, his siblings and many friends in the 1960’s. When the Greek freighter Amaryllis ran aground during Hurricane Betsy in 1968, that playground became even more of a blast. If you were a surfer, you took advantage of the righteous waves just south of the ship. Dennis and brother Kevin were nearly always in the lineup.

Dennis leaves his siblings to mourn his passing: Joseph, Kevin, Patricia and Theresa, as well as many friends in Palm Beach, Martin and Saint Lucie Counties.

Contributions to the Surfing Florida Museum in Dennis’ memory are greatly appreciated. 2780 Worcester Road, Lake Worth, FL 33462. (561)236-0155. surfingfloridamuseum.org. (Moving to a new, larger site in the coming months.)

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Dennis and I attended St. Francis together. Glad I was able to see him at the 55th. This is a complete shock to me. We had some good times making life hard for the nuns and lay teachers. Yeah, fond memories of a time long ago.

So sad to lose another classmate.  I will remeber him for his Irish sense of humor. Condolences to the family.

my brother and I had quite a life together..we grew up sleeping in the same bed,,and I wore his hand-me-down cloths..I can't think of too many things that happened in my life that brother Den wasn't involved..We had a paper route for a few years in North Palm Beach when we were kids, and "had too" get a Vespa Scooter!!..We drove our parents crazy!!!..then of course, the many places we went surfing together..the trips to Costa Rica fishing trips. And of course, our trips to Hope Town in the Bahamas..He worked on Spanish Cay building the resort..Dennis was a really good carpenter,,and made some really nice wood items..he loved a good cigar..we talked to each other almost every day..I will miss him,,,He was my brother,,and my best friend..Rest easy Den...till we meet again..Kevin
