David Ornstein (65) & Boardwalk Empire Posted Monday, September 20, 2010 10:42 PM Caught a little bit of Boardwalk Empire, the new show on HBO tonight. Much of the vintage clothing, which looks spectacular in this show set in the very early 20s comes from David's collection. The principal actors in the show are probably wearing costumes created specifically for them but many of the other actors are wearing David's clothes. Maybe David will chime in and clarify. David's father taught many of the science classes at RBHS. |

RE: David Ornstein (65) & Boardwalk Empire Posted Thursday, September 23, 2010 06:00 AM Hey Bill Hope all is well. Boardwalk looked really great. We can't wait to get through to episode 5 and 6. Story is so well written. We worked on the series for over a year. There were a total of 1800 extras for the first seasons 12 episodes. There were 4 major companies needed to supply that much material. Three of the costume companies from the west coast and our company "Daybreak Vintage Rentals" from New York. The movie was shot in Brooklyn at Steiner Studios and they recreated the Boardwalk on the Gowanus Canal a few blocks away. Here is a great link to the time lapse movie of the building of the Boardwalk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlpFHcA98-E. We did a good mix of costuming for both principles and extras. Most of the really loud and fancy suits that Nucky wears were built. Most of the flapper dresses and edwardian women's suits and hats were period. We will be having an exhibition of some of the costumes that we supplied at our up coming Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show, Oct 8-9, at the Metropolitan Pavilion, on 18 th st. www.manhattanvintage.com If there are any ole' Hornets around please stop by and say hello. |
