John Edward Robarts of Sylvania died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was the son of the late Edward Watson and Elizabeth Bemis Robarts of Sylvania. John was born on October 24, 1946, in Hibbing, Minnesota. He was a class of 1965 graduate of Riviera Beach High School of Florida. He was a petty officer third class in the Navy from 1967 to 1971, being stationed on aircraft carriers and destroyers as a navigator. Following his service, he received an associate's degree in mechanical engineering in Charleston, S.C. Later, he went on to complete courses in computer drafting and spent 25 years in marine design. He moved to Georgia and spent his last years in Sylvania. Surviving is his mother, Betty Robarts of Sylvania; two sisters and brother-in-law, Sarah Robarts of Sylvania and Polly and Sal Nicosia of Springville, Pa.; several nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Screven Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler officiating.
