The best place for burgers was a little hamburger place along Flagler Drive near the Palm Beach Bridge called The Hut.  Anyone remember it?

  It was hard to get a parking spot , only 2 rows of parking. We always wanted the front row.  I could not afford a burger always but fries and an coke was my main order.

I got pulled over one night for going around the curve a little too fast in front of the Hut.

Art Chesson had just helped me put two four barrel carbs on my 63 black Dodge and had my foot into it. I was lucky , the cop let me off.

I was just out driving my 66 Mustang today and all the old memories of those days came rushing back...even churped the tires for old time sake on PGA blvd. in front of Mirasol.

After a friend from Palm Beach High and I hitch hiked to NYC for Christmas vacation during our first year of college we took a bus to South Carolina bought some M-80s and hitch hiked back to the Palm Beaches.  Next night we went to the hut, bummed a cigarette since neither of us smoked, went into the restroom, stuck the fuse of an M-80 into the cigarette near the filter, lit the cig, put it behind the toilet and sauntered back to our car.

A couple of minutes later - booom.  Several people went running into the restroom.  My friend said he saw smoke come out of the vent on the rest room's roof.  Nahhh, just wishful thinking.

Hey Wendell: I actually have a piece of the "HUT". The day they tore the old place down, I went down and ripped off a chunk of "art deco" glass that was in front. My wife and I had walked through the inside of the building several weeks before looking for some artifacts. There was nothing of valuable to speak of. I was looking for a particular picture that was hung on the wall back in 1962. It was the profile of a tiger. For some reason it always intrigued me. A bunch of the older guys used to sit in there for hours and talk and argue about cars. I just listened and stared at that dumb picture.

Most people don't remember the company housed next door to the Hut was "Ship & Shore". They imported British Cars and Parts for Gulfstream Motors. They always had a few new Austin Healey 3000's on display in front. They ran about $3,400.00 back then. Ebay has a few on auction now for between $30,000 to $50,000. Good investment!!!

Checking the Palm Beach County Official Records Web Site, the former Hut's owner had numerous judgements against him for non payment to several food suppliers.

Also I believe "Conchey Joe's Fish & Chips" occupied the location for a few years too.

Well I had better get back to 2010 again....."The older I get the better I used to be".

Used to love cruisin' Flagler Drive waitin' for s spot at The HUT....then ridin' up to Murphys at 52nd and Broadway, just South of Music Casters...Anyone remember that the jukebox there was radio tuned to 950 on the AM dial, and one could listen to it on the car radio?  And the great burgers and Purple Passion shakes served upside down, frozen solid?  Yep, those were some good days!!!!

I remember the radio thing and the purple passions. The burgers were great too, now that I think of it.
