Mary Lou Root, 75, of West Palm Beach, FL passed away on February 19, 2025. It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Dear Mary Lou. Mary Lou was born on October 9th in Pittson, PA to parents Bruno and Mary Bernardi. Mary Lou and her sister, Gloria, who were just 14 months apart in age, spent wonderful years growing up in Pittson. In 1963, the family relocated to Florida and in 1967, Mary Lou graduated from Riviera Beach High School; she kept in close contact with several of her fellow graduates throughout her life. After completing school, Mary Lou met her husband Harold in PB Gardens, FL. The two dated for a year before marrying. A true love story, they were married for nearly 56 years when Harold passed- nearly a lifetime. A year after they were married, Mary Lou and Harold welcomed their only child, Randy. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Mary Lou worked throughout most of her life in bookkeeping and accounting. And, for the last 25 years of her working life, she was an accountant with Pro Tech Med. Mary Lou was a caring and wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend. She was very family-oriented and loved family get-togethers, including traveling to Pennsylvania and New York to visit family. Mary Lou also enjoyed gambling and she and Harold enjoyed taking gambling excursions to Biloxi together. But, undoubtedly, more than anything else, Mary Lou adored spending time with her beloved granddaughter, Rene, the “apple of her eye.” Mary Lou will be forever loved and deeply missed by her family, friends and those whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold. She is survived by her son, Randy Root (Sherry); her granddaughter, Rene Root; her sister, Gloria Justine (Jerry); and, the Root family, Jack Root (Karen), Robert Root (Donna), Janie Sylvain (David), David Root (Jody) and many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held in Mary Lou’s honor at St. Clare Catholic Church in North Palm Beach, FL on Saturday March 22nd at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a considering a donation in Mary Lou’s Memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/promotion/impact-giving-pm.html) or having a Mass said in her name.
