Can't remember which hurricane it was but several of us including Marty Houldsworth went out to the end of the jetty on the Singer Island side of the inlet in our junior or senior year.  Went out to the very end of the concrete and sat there with the 20 foot high waves breaking over us.  Any and all of us could have been washed away.

I was in the back.  After a wave broke, I attempted to get in front of everyone.  Wasn't quick enough.  The next wave came sooner than expected hitting our group hard and washing me, the only one standing off the end of the jetty.  Luckily it wasn't on the inlet side but it was on the north side where all sorts of large rocks were piled.  Somehow I missed them and landed in the water without injury.  There was a narrow ledge at the base of the jetty wall about the height of the waterline that I was able to climb up on and make my way back to the beach without further incident.
