Does anyone remember the International Bazaar?  Later on the Music Casters was housed in the Bazaar.  When it first opened it was a wonder.  I loved it.  It had fountains and an inner courtyard.  I remember glass blowers in the beginning.  We would toss pennies in the fountains too.  There was also that tower in the front.  Is it still there?

My father helped build the Bazaar International and later on he had his real estate office there.  I remember the ice cream shop that had a buffet of toppings that you could build your own sundae with.

I think that later turned into the Music Caster.

I think the tower is still there. At one time, you could ride the elevator to the top, look through the binocculars, and see the Bahamas. And yes, the Music Casters did take over the ice cream shop. Does anyone remember the summer that Mr. Maule brought in all the biggest recording stars? How many of them can you name??

Sorry to say the Bazaar Tower is history. You can view the current layout at http://www.bing.com Maps (Bird's eye view) or Google Maps. The Port has expanded and Broadway at the old Bazaar International is now a "flyover". I heard the smoke stacks Florida Power and Light uses are also going to be torn down.

One of the full time staff workers up at Saint John the Divine (112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue) where I ran a performng arts project in the late 70s near Columbia University helped build the Bazaar International.  He was a Belgian who came to the US to work help build the Bazzar I.  The BI was created by a Belgian company according to him
