Almost Famous?

I don't know of anyone that attended our school that became famous or almost famous.  Does anyone else have any "almost famous" stories?

Class of 1968

Does anyone know anything about Nancy Yeager (Class of 1967)? She was a very talented singer with a very clear voice.

Sarah,

Me! No, but I'm still working on it.. and I have gotten close to that rarified air. My masterpiece is on the drawing board as we speak!

Seriously when I first saw this thread back in July, it got me thinking.. about fame and the elusiveness of "becoming famous" for doing something or being something that is regarded as making it. Many of our fellow boomers, from around the western world born in the late 40s, 1948, 49, and early 50s (me) made it in the music and arts scene.. But I just can't think of anyone right now, from our RBHS class years who "made it".. I'm sure I can wrack my brain and find someone who at least aspired to it.. Danny (someone) '68, became a  stand-up comedian, so I heard, out in Las Vegas.. I've even forgotten his last name.. Someone from our class told me that back in 1988 during a rare visit home for the 20th class of '68 reunion. And then there's Richard Meitien, also '68, who rumour had it back in the early 70s, played in Neil Young's band Crazy Horse.. I never verified that.. But Richard is today an active DJ in New York.. I've seen his website.. so I intend to ask him about that rumour.

Maybe he doesn't qualify as from our school, but after RBHS became Suncoast High in 1970, Anthony Carter, who excelled on the Suncoast Chargers football team as a wide receiver, and who graduated in 1979, could be considered as being famous, at least by his fellow classmates. After college, he was drafted by the Minnestota Vikings and became a MVP years running.. and is regarded as the most successful althlete to graduate from Suncoast.. Almost Famous, well sorta.

Stephen,

I don't recall a Nancy Yeager.. but I guess everyone else "knew her as Nancy.." Did she have a recording career? Any singles or LPs? Years ago I recall hearing about a female folkie from the U of Florida named Peggy Kellogg who began her folk singing career in the late 60s - she bore a resemblence to Joni Mitchell - which didn't help her. I've never heard her music but I think because she may have sounded too much like Joni and thus didn't achieve widespread fame.. There's nothing worse than being compared to someone you're competeing with at the same age and experience level.. Of course Joni Mitchell was extraordinary and no one really could compare to her songwriting and her unbelievable voice..

BTW, I got your email about the Stern article, but I did see the cover, but didn't read the article -- that was back when I didn't have much time to reply.. have since resettled and my new DSL line is humming.. So, you and I live in Germany.. I picked that up when I signed up to the website.. And you live where? I live in Hamburg... and have for at least 17 years.. But I was also here brielfy in the late 80s.. Are you going to Berlin for the 20th anniversary Fall of the Wall party on the 9th?

Cheers -- Rob
